Welcome to Macholan Angus, owned by Jim, Jessica & Keaton Macholan. We are situated in the Platte River valley a few miles northwest of Linwood, NE in east central Nebraska. Our family has been in this area since the 1880's. We raise corn, soybeans and alfalfa along with cattle. Most of the pasture is located within 5 miles from the home place. We run about 400 head of cattle along with Jim's brother (D-D Angus).
Jim is the 3rd generation raising cattle on the farm. We had always raised commercial cattle that were sold as feeders until 1981 when we purchased the first Simmental bull and Simmental cows with calves and began selling bulls by private treaty. (Keaton has found he likes to dabble in the Simmentals yet (mainly from when he showed in 4H) and we may have a Simmental bull or heifer for sale once in a while.) In the late 1980's we began crossing them with Angus bulls and realized the value of Angus genetics. We always kept replacement heifers but in the early 2000's began purchasing purebred Angus cows/heifers. We tried to purchase top females or embryos from Angus breeders.
Our commitment to improving our herd of bulls and females in our program has been an ongoing investment. We have tried to select elite genetics through semen from outstanding sires and addition of superior producing cow families to our program. Through artificial insemination (AI) and embryo transfers (ET) we have continued to improve the genetics in our herd. We look at many aspects when selecting Angus cattle to add to our program. We aim for a range of birthweights to suit our customers along with strong growth and carcass quality. Attitude of the animal is very important to us so they must be docile.
In addition to improving our breeding program, we know our future and success depends on customer satisfaction. Repeat customers, long-standing relationships and real genetic value are what we strive to produce. If there is ever a problem or concern, please let us try to make it right. Please feel free to call and stop by anytime.
